Troy Tanner’s broad range of experiences as both a coach and player within the sport of volleyball place him in a category all his own. Troy’s coached and consulted with the USA’s Men’s and Women’s National Teams and the Turkish National Volleyball Federation (TVF). While earning a masters degree and coaching at BYU, his ‘Cougars’ won two NCAA Championships. When coaching beach legends Kerri Walsh / Jennings and Misty May / Treanor, they completely dominated international volleyball. With Troy at the helm, Kerri and Misty compiled a 76-1 record and won every major tournament, including two World Championships and the Gold Medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He’s also worked as head coached for his alma mater, Pepperdine University. Troy opened Tstreet Volleyball Club in 2006 with nine, 11-year- old girls from his San Clemente neighborhood (including his daughter, Bailey) and quickly guided the club into national prominence and the #1 club in Southern California (USClubRankings.com). Tstreet’s owner played outside hitter on the 1988 USA Olympic team that won the Gold Medal in Seoul, Korea. He’s in the hall of fame at Pepperdine University where he led the ‘Waves’ to two NCAA titles, and was a three-time All-American at two different positions (setter and outside hitter). Troy played professionally in Italy, Croatia and Japan, and won multiple championships. He was voted the “World’s Best Passer” at the 1989 World Cup, and earned “Best Service Reception” in Japan’s professional league (JVA). He also competed professionally in the sand (AVP and FIVB) for over a decade and was honored as “Rookie of the Year,” “Best Defensive Player,” “Comeback Player of the Year,” and received the “Ron Von Hagan” award. Troy married Desiree Pipla in 1989 and has three children. Twin sons Riley and Carson recently graduated from college and can be seen coaching at Tstreet, surfing up and down the coast, or training in mixed martial arts. The couple’s daughter Bailey was a two-time Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA) “Player of the Year” and attends the University of Washington where she plays setter for the ‘Dawgs.’ In his free time, Troy enjoys all ocean activities, ping-pong and playing guitar.
